Texas City was founded in 1893, when investors from the Texas City Improvement Company filed to develop a community in the area. Shortly after, the city gained a railroad and a small port. However, due to the Gavelston storm in 1900, local business and residential development halted for a brief period of time.

Between 1901 and 1911, Texas City gained its first church, school and pier. It also invested in the construction of a refinery and three major railway lines. The city’s port also expands to allow larger ships to deliver goods. A few years after 1911, the 6th Brigade and 1st Aero Squadron set-up their headquarters in Texas City as tensions with Mexico increase. The city grew significantly during this time until the camp shut down in 1915. In 1947, a ship exploded in the port, a disaster which costs many lives and caused severe damage to many homes and businesses. Texas City was forced to rebuild and in turn, increased the city’s boarders, which helped to significantly increase the population.

With several museums, golf courses and other family friendly events, Texas City is the third largest city within Galveston County. Today, it is best known for its petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing companies.

Energy Deregulation in Texas City

Energy deregulation is available in many states throughout America. It is designed to generate competition within the energy industry in order to help keep electricity rates reasonable and low for consumers. To achieve this, energy deregulation opens the supply component of the energy business to organizations known as electricity providers or retail energy providers (REPs).

In many regulated situations, there are only on or two utilities that consumers can receive services from. There isn’t much incentive for those utilities to keep rates low, as consumers don’t have much choice over who provides their electricity. In an energy deregulated market, with many REPs in place, consumers have much more control over who provides the supply component of their electricity. If a REP does not meet the consumer’s expectations, they can always switch to one that does.

Texas City Electricity Providers

There are many REPs in Texas, and these REPs provide services to many cities within the state. In Texas Cities, some the REPs include,

  • Infuse Energy

  • StarTex Power
  • Volt EP
  • Breeze Energy

  • Pioneer Energy
  • Cirro Energy
  • TriEagle Energy
  • Veteran Energy
  • Viridian

It is important to note that only 80% of Texas is currently energy deregulated. To find out whether or not you have the option to choose an REP for electricity services for your home or business contact your utility or the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
