Primarily in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, the average wholesale price for power is expected to be around $0.40 per kWh ($0.45 in New Jersey). With Electricity normally closer to $0.06 per kWh, customers are urged to consider curtailing usage as much as comfortably possible.

This graph, provided by ConEd Solutions illustrates the dramatic increase:

These high prices are expected to persist through the end of next week.

We strongly encourage all energy users in the northeast U.S. to curtail as much as possible over the next week, particularly during the 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. periods when prices tend to be highest.

Several Max Emergency alerts have been issued by PJM and Emergency Demand Response has been activated in the BG&E, PEPCO, and Dominion zones. PJM is also encouraging customers across the region to conserve energy use as much as possible. PJM has experienced a number of outages already.
