june-2015 Rates

This is the beginning of a series of monthly posts we’ll make tracking electric rates in certain states and cities (and as always, we showcase rates from 2013/2014).

To kick this series off we’ll take a look at a small snapshot of some current electric rates and plans being offered in Texas — the de facto poster child of electricity deregulation.  Please note though, the lowest electric rates listed here are just some rates being offered as of the time of this writing on ElectricChoice.com.  Rates and plans can change daily, so please check current plans for actual pricing/terms and for further details/charges.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at some cities in Texas and some of the cheapest plans being offered at the moment:

Houston

Veteran Energy’s Secure 12-Month plan at 8.4 ¢ per kWh w/ a 12 month commitment.  Runner ups are both Direct Energy’s Liberty Plan and Bounce Energy’s Terrific 12 @ 8.7 ¢ per kWh.

Dallas

Electric rates in Dallas, TX to start June are lower than what you’ll find in Houston.  You can grab a plan with a 12-month commitment, also Veteran Energy’s Secure 12-Month, for 7.8 cents per kWh.  If you’re looking a green electricity, Veteran offers a green pan not too far away at 8.1 cents per kWh.  It also requires a 12-month commitment.

Galveston

While Galveston’s average electric rate is in line with Dallas and Houston, Galveston has an incredibly cheap plan at the moment offering 7.2 ¢ per kWh as of this moment (as always, please check here for current rates).  This is being offered by Veteran.  Aside from this, the next cheapest plan in Galveston is 8.4 cents per kWh.

Austin

Austin is pretty close to mimicking Dallas’ selection of rates and plans to start the month of June.  Austin’s lowest plan comes in at 7.7 cents per kWh, but instead of the title of the cheapest plan going to Veteran Energy it belongs to Bounce Energy.  Bounce Energy’s cheapest plan beats Veteran Energy by a penny per kWh.

Arlington

Once again, Bounce Energy comes in front at 7.7 cents per kWh with their “Thrifty Saver Promotional” plan.  It’s a no contract plan that offers no deposit for qualified customers.

Rates are based off of a small snapshot of residential customer plans in Texas using 2,000 kWh a month at time of writing.  Specific zip codes within each respective city were used to demonstrate the lowest electric rate.   For current rates in your zip code, please enter in your zip code to the form above.
