Tara Energy launched in 2002 in Houston as a retail electricity provider serving residential and commercial customers across deregulated Texas markets. The company was originally a subsidiary of Fulcrum Power Services before being acquired along with sister brand Amigo Energy by Just Energy Group in August 2011 as part of the approximately $79 million Fulcrum Retail Holdings deal. Tara Energy became part of the IGS Energy family when IGS acquired Just Energy in July 2025.
