A severe winter storm caused catastrophic power grid failure across Texas, leaving millions without power in freezing temperatures. At peak (February 15–18, 2021), 4,407,330 customers lost power across 15 states.
Resolution
Most Texas customers had power restored within 3–4 days as temperatures moderated. Some customers experienced outages lasting over a week. ERCOT returned to normal operations on February 20, 2021. The storm caused an estimated 246 deaths and over $195 billion in damage.
