Energy Texas FAQ

Common questions about Energy Texas electricity plans, rates, and service areas.

Where can I get Energy Texas electricity?

Energy Texas is available across six TDU service territories in Texas — Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, TNMP, and Sharyland. Coverage depends on your physical address, so use the ZIP code tool above to check availability.

How much does Energy Texas electricity cost per kWh?

At 1,000 kWh monthly usage, Energy Texas plans currently price between 7.4¢ and 14.5¢ per kWh. The average across all plans and territories is 11.3¢/kWh, with the best rate found in the CenterPoint territory. These rates include TDU delivery charges and refresh several times per day.

Why does the same Energy Texas plan have different prices in different areas?

Texas electricity rates include two components: the provider's energy charge and the TDU's delivery charge. Since each utility territory (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, etc.) sets its own delivery rates, the total cost of a Energy Texas plan varies depending on where you live — even though the energy portion stays the same.

Can I get a short-term plan from Energy Texas?

Energy Texas offers contract terms from 12 to 36 months. Shorter terms give you flexibility to switch sooner, while longer terms typically lock in a lower rate. Early cancellation fees apply: 12-month plan: $20; 24-month plan: $20; 36-month plan: $20.

How do I sign up for Energy Texas electricity?

Pick a plan from the table above, then enroll through the provider's website or by phone. Energy Texas handles the switch with your local utility automatically. There's no interruption to your power — the transition usually takes 1-3 business days.
