About Just Energy

Just Energy was founded in July 1997 in Toronto as Ontario Energy Savings Corp by Rebecca MacDonald, offering fixed-rate natural gas contracts to shield consumers from wholesale price volatility. The company rebranded to Just Energy in 2009, went public on the NYSE in 2012, and grew through major acquisitions including Hudson Energy (2010) and Fulcrum Retail Holdings — which included Amigo Energy and Tara Energy — in 2011 for ~$79M. Ohio-based IGS Energy acquired Just Energy in July 2025, creating one of North America's largest energy retailers with approximately 7.5 million residential customer equivalents.
