Discount Power was founded in 2008 in Houston by veterans of the Texas energy industry and serves as NRG Energy's value-priced brand for Texas electricity. NRG acquired Discount Power from Volterra Energy Holdings in late 2018, and the company operates under the corporate entity US Retailers, LLC alongside sister brands Cirro Energy and Pennywise Power.
