Green Mountain Energy FAQ

Common questions about Green Mountain Energy electricity plans, rates, and service areas.

What areas does Green Mountain Energy serve?

Green Mountain Energy offers plans in six Texas deregulated TDU territories: Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, TNMP, and Sharyland. Enter your ZIP code to confirm availability and see rates for your territory.

What are Green Mountain Energy's current rates?

Rates range from 15¢ to 18.4¢/kWh depending on the plan and territory, with an average of 16.2¢/kWh. The lowest rate is currently in the CenterPoint territory. Rates on this page update multiple times daily.

Why do Green Mountain Energy rates differ by territory?

Each TDU (Transmission and Distribution Utility) charges different delivery rates that are passed through to your bill. The same Green Mountain Energy plan can cost several cents more per kWh in one territory vs. another because of these delivery charge differences.

What contract lengths does Green Mountain Energy offer?

Green Mountain Energy currently offers fixed-rate plans ranging from 12 to 36 months. Early termination fees apply if you cancel before your contract ends. Current ETFs: 12-month plan: $150; 18-month plan: $180; 24-month plan: $295; 36-month plan: $395.

How do I switch to Green Mountain Energy?

Choose a plan and enroll online or by calling their customer service line. Your new provider coordinates the switch with your TDU — power stays on during the changeover, typically within 1-3 business days.
